Tomatis Sound Therapy

Sound Therapy

In a sound therapy session the children sit at a table and wear special headphones. They listen,  during a forty minute long session, to specially adapted classical tracks of music that are designed to encourage their ears to work together and help them focus.  As they listen they complete enjoyable tasks such as colouring, lego model building or play games. Evidence shows that if both sides of our bodies and our eyes and ears work together we are more ready to learn. The children have two weeks of therapy and then a rest period of around four to six weeks. They have three rounds of the sound therapy and sessions involve groups of three or four children. We find that children’s attention, focus, emotional regulation and communication and interaction with others can be improved following sound therapy.

The children are assessed using various assessment tools prior to starting the sound therapy sessions and again at the end to show impact and progress.
