No Outsiders

No Outsiders

At Castle Hill, we want to make sure every child feels valued no matter who they are; there are no outsiders here because we all have differences, and we all belong. There is no judgement.

The strength of a No Outsiders ethos is that schools use it to include everyone. There is no hierarchy of difference, there are conversations about difference and we explore the ways that we are different from each other.

In the end, being a refugee, being disabled, being black, trans, LGBTQ, Muslim or Jewish is just another way we are different. We are not defined by our differences but we are happy to talk about them and we learn from each other.

No Outsiders is our chosen scheme of work for teaching pupils about difference, through a series of high quality, age appropriate picture books, pupils learn about difference in the world and their rights and responsibilities defined by the Equality Act of 2010.

There are 43 picture books in total, taking your child on a journey from Reception to Year 6 where they will meet a huge range of different characters in different situations.

Pupils will encounter characters from different ethnic backgrounds, ages, religions, genders, disabilities and who live in different families.  The books have been carefully chosen to represent the Castle Hill community, we hope that our children and families see themselves reflected in the books but that the stories also act as a lens for pupils to look through to families and communities from different backgrounds.
