Fine and Gross Motor Interventions

Handwriting intervention

Handwriting is an extremely important skill and all children at Castle Hill have handwriting sessions in class. In addition to this, we use a handwriting intervention called ‘Write from the Start’. The children complete hand/ eye coordination exercises by following specific patterns on paper which leads to an improvement in the children's pencil control, cursive handwriting and writing spacing.

OT Intervention

Some children at Castle HIll are recommended for Occupational Therapy type exercises by outside agencies. These children work on improving their fine motor skills doing a range of fun activities. Fine motor skills are achieved when children learn to use their smaller muscles, like muscles in the hands, fingers, and wrists. Children use their fine motor skills when writing, holding small items, buttoning clothing, turning pages, eating, cutting with scissors, and using computer keyboards. Children are assessed before they start to work in the group and monitored closely throughout to ensure that improvements are made.
